Last week saw the introduction of two of the world's most luxurious vehicles to the local market.

The first super-luxury to make its local debut was the Maybach 62 Zeppelin that was introduced to the market on Tuesday (January 12).

Priced at 800 million won (US$714,000), the Maybach 62 Zeppelin is well and truly reserve of the superrich.

However, the huge price tag is not the only obstacle facing wannabe 62 Zeppelin owners. The company will limit production to 100 units, of which only three will be officially marketed in the country.

Although the price tag may seem somewhat excessive, even for a Maybach, the car is decked out with the finest German technology and at over 6 meters long, its length is more easily compared with that of a minibus than a passenger car.

The car comes with a massive 6 liter engine that puts out 640 brake horse-power and five-speed automatic transmission.

Although fuel economy is unlikely to be high on the priority list of a potential Maybach buyer, the 62 Zeppelin is a fuel guzzler that manages only 5.2km per liter of fuel.

The interior of the vehicle is decked out with the finest trimmings and comes with lambskin carpeting.

The car also comes with a perfume diffuser that can be fitted with two specially developed fragrances contained in hand-blown vials.

The German super-luxury car was followed two days later by a new model from another European heavyweight, Rolls Royce.

On Thursday, Rolls Royce unveiled the Ghost on the local market. The car will be produced on an order basis and deliveries will be made from the second quarter of the year.

With a starting price of 430 million won, the Rolls Royce Ghost is a bargain compared to the German contender for the super-luxury market.

However, the Ghost is not lacking in luxuries. Luxury features found in the car include four-zone air conditioning, wool carpeting, 16-speaker sound system and 9.2-inch LCD screens built into the headrests of the front seats.

The car is also fitted out with the latest automotive technologies including a lane departure warning system, stop and go active brakes, head-up display and night vision camera.

The Rolls Royce Ghost is fitted with a 6.6-liter twin turbo engine that puts out 563 brake horsepower, and 8-speed automatic transmission.

Managing 100km 13.6 liters of fuel, or about 7.4km per liter, the Rolls Royce Ghost is a step ahead of the Maybach 62 Zeppelin despite having a larger engine.
